Michael Jurkevicius – From struggle to ScaffChamp

For Michael Jurkevicius, scaffolding has been part of his life for 18 years. What started as an apprenticeship at 18, after his mum told him and his brother they had to go to college or move out, became a career, a support system, and something much deeper than a job.

Together with his brother Sean, Michael built his whole scaffolding career from the beginning. Over the years, the trade gave him structure, focus, and pride in work that demands skill, precision, and responsibility. But behind that career was also a much harder personal battle. For years, Michael struggled with addiction, depression, and the damage that came with it, until a turning point three years ago pushed him to seek help and begin recovery.

Today, Michael is three years clean and sober. His story is about brotherhood, honesty, rebuilding yourself, and finding strength through the trade. Now part of AK Scaffolding’s competitive journey, including Las Vegas and ScaffChamp 2026, he sees scaffolding not only as work, but as purpose, achievement, and a way to show the next generation what is possible.
